A stock market for the virtual world

Massively Multiplayer Online games (MMOs) are built within vast fantasy worlds. Players are motivated by the drive to collect virtual stuff, to progress their avatar, to level up. Markets in the real world are a natural by-product of human behavior. Virtual items in MMOs are valuable to players, and create markets within the game. The demand for virtual stuff inevitably leads to gold farming, where some people play MMOs for pay in order to sell virtual gold to other players for real money. Gold farming creates a fluid exchange between the virtual markets of MMOs and real world economies. MMO economies are real, and they’re huge. What would it look like if MMO economies were given the same treatment that real markets are given?
